Immanuel Chapel, located at Great Commission University in Howe, Indiana, serves as a vital spiritual hub for the community, embodying the heart and mission of the university. As a place of worship and spiritual renewal, Immanuel Chapel reflects GCU’s commitment to the mission of God, or Missio Dei, to share the gospel and bring healing to the world.
The name Immanuel is derived from the Hebrew word meaning “God with us,” as prophesied in the book of Isaiah and fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23). It represents the profound truth that God is not distant, but present among His people, guiding, comforting, and empowering them to fulfill His mission.
At GCU, it is believed that the Trinitarian God is inherently missionary in nature, and as His church, the university is called and sent to be instruments of His saving and healing work. This mission is central to everything at GCU, including the worship and activities within Immanuel Chapel. Through the chapel, a space is provided for students, faculty, and staff to experience God’s presence, grow in their understanding of His Word, and be equipped for service to the world.
Immanuel Chapel is more than just a physical space; it is where the heart of GCU’s vision comes to life. The university envisions a world where the gospel of Jesus Christ is known to all, and His grace is deeply embedded in every heart. As the community gathers for worship, reflection, and spiritual training, the goal is to send disciples out into the world, prepared to make a difference through their faith, equipped by the teachings of Christ, and fueled by His transformative love.

At Great Commission University (GCU), our Chapel services are central to the university experience, providing essential moments for spiritual growth and community connection. These gatherings allow our GCU family—students, faculty, and staff—to focus on the triune God, to embrace our shared mission, and to live out our core values as we strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Recognizing the diverse backgrounds and global locations of our students, GCU offers flexible ways to participate in Chapel. Our Chaplain provides a live GCU Chapel service every Wednesday at 8 AM Eastern Time, with Spanish interpretation available. For students who cannot join live due to time differences, recorded Chapel sessions are available, ensuring that all members of our community have the opportunity to engage meaningfully in worship, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Chapel is more than a routine gathering; it is a dedicated time to meditate on God’s Word, reflect on His calling, and renew our commitment to serving others. Worship services provide an opportunity to honor the Lord collectively, fostering an environment where each student can grow in faith and become equipped to impact their communities and the world.
As part of GCU’s broader mission to support students’ spiritual wellness and academic growth, Chapel services serve as a foundation for cultivating resilient, compassionate leaders prepared to fulfill the Great Commission. We invite all members of the GCU community to join us as we worship, learn, and deepen our walk with Christ together.
